Primal Scream are an Scottish alternative rock band originally formed in 1982 by Jim Beattie and Bobby Gillespie while he was still drumming for the Jesus and Mary Chain. Their early pop-based records received little attention. Until in 1991, inspired by the emerging acid house scene and with the contribution from DJ Andrew Weatherall, the band released the ultimate indie pop and dance fusion album, “Screamadelica”. The album was a massive success, winning the first Mercury Music Prize in 1992. Following a disappointing reaction to their follow up album “Give Out But Don’t Give” up the band reacted with a dark return to the dance genre with the title track to the hit film Trainspotting in 1991. Further critically acclaimed albums followed during the 1990s and 2000s and despite line-up changes Primal Scream tour regularly.
