The Specials Tickets
Formed in Coventry in 1977, The Specials were a key part of the English 2 Tone ska revival of the late seventies and early eighties. Originally called The Automatics and later The Coventry Automatics (for obvious reasons), the band were originally comprised of members Jerry Dammers, Horace Panter and Lynval Golding. The band once again changed their name to The Special AKA The Coventry Automatics with the addition of new members Terry Hall and Roddy Byers. The Special AKA (another name change!) began touring nationally when they were invited by punk legends The Clash to join them on their ‘On Parole’ UK Tour.
Jerry Dammers started the 2 Tone Records Label in order to release The Specials’ records. The band went on to release their debut album Specials in 1979, produced by none other than punk rock figurehead Elvis Costello and featuring the single (and live favourite) ‘A Message To You, Rudy’. The Specials courted controversy with the release of their 1980 EP ‘Too Much Too Young’, as the song of the same name referenced teenage pregnancy.
The band reunited in 2009 - minus Dammers - for a UK tour. The success of the tour meant that The Specials tours continue to be announced, particularly following brilliant performances at Bestival and Glastonbury.
