Alonso: My only goal is to win the championship
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has issued a warning to his Formula One competitors ahead of this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, saying that winning this year's championship is his only focus.
The 28-year-old Spaniard has claimed that qualifying is not important to him as long as he wins the race itself, Agence France Presse reports.
"My only goal is to win the championship, and to score points on Sunday afternoons. I am not going to worry about anything other than that at all," he said.
"So I don't care to worry about Saturdays, or pole position, or qualifying or other things. All that matters for me is Sunday and the championship."
Alonso, a two-time world champion, has enjoyed a promising start to the season.
He currently leads the driver standings with 37 points following a win in the opening race in Bahrain and a fourth place finish in Australia.
Qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix gets underway on Saturday, April 3rd with the race the following day.
