Alonso sets pace in Monaco Grand Prix practice
Fernando Alonso has emerged as the early pace-setter in the run-up to this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.
The Spaniard set the fastest time in both of today's (May 13th) practice session.
In the morning practice he hit a fastest lap of one minute 15.927 seconds. But the Ferrari driver topped this in the afternoon with a one minute 14.904 seconds - 0.109 seconds clear of Nico Rosberg who was second in the Mercedes.
However, speaking to the BBC, Alonso predicted that Saturday's all-important qualifying session would be tight.
"Overall we found our car very good from the beginning, very easy to drive but qualifying, everything will be very close as we saw today," he said.
"It was three tenths of a second over seven or eight cars, so we can't afford any mistakes - we need to be perfect on Saturday."
The Monaco Grand Prix itself will take place the following day, Sunday, May 16th.
