Alonso stresses importance of successful race at Ferrari's home circuit
Fernando Alonso has said Ferrari must do everything they can to get a good result in front of their home crowd at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Failure to score any points in the last Formula One race, at Spa in Belgium, means that Alonso is now 41 points adrift of championship leader Lewis Hamilton, meaning he can ill afford anymore bad results if he is to have any hope of winning this year's title.
But perhaps of greater importance is the damage to morale that could be done if Ferrari fail to impress in front of their supporters in Italy.
Commenting via the official Ferrari blog, Alonso said: "There is no denying that the Monza race will be very important. At our home circuit we will have to do everything to avoid losing any more points.
"A good result here would be a great boost. If things go badly, it won’t be over but it would be a hard knock for team morale."
The Italian Grand Prix takes place this Sunday, September 12th.
