Arcade Fire pledge money for Haiti
Reading and Leeds Festival headliners Arcade Fire have pledged to donate a vast sum of money to Haiti and have asked their fans to do the same.
At a recent gig in Montreal, the Canadian band announced they would give $1 million Canadian dollars (£630,000) to Haiti charity Kanpe.
Frontman Win Butler said the band will match $5 (£3.10) donations from the public, made by texting 30333, up to a value of $1 million, the New York Times reports.
Kanpe aims to help rebuild Haitian villages that were destroyed when the country was devastated by an earthquake that occurred on January 12th this year.
It is estimated that some 230,000 people were killed in the disaster, with much of the island nation reduced to rubble.
Arcade Fire will be headlining Reading and Leeds festival this summer, which runs from August 27th-29th.
Other bands to perform include The Libertines and Blink 182.
