Arctic Monkeys: It's our job to promote guitar music

V Festival headliners Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they feel a sense of responsibility to keep guitar music alive.

Speaking to ShortList magazine, frontman Alex Turner said he agreed with Liam Gallagher's recent comments about indie and rock music being somewhat marginalised at the moment.

But he stressed that the current state of the industry makes it even more important for the band to play the V Festival and be "right in the middle" of the current pop scene.

He also commented on the release of Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair as the first single from Arctic Monkeys' latest album, noting that the song is guitar-heavy and not as chart-friendly as other tracks.

"Because we've got that fanbase and we're one of the guitar bands that have a shot of getting on the radio in the daytime, I almost feel like it's our job to put that sort of tune out," Turner said.

Holders of V Festival tickets will also be able to rock out to sets from the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Kaiser Chiefs and Primal Scream this weekend.
