Arctic Monkeys talk about moving to New York and new album Humbug
During an interview with Scotland on Sunday the Monkeys frontman Turner discussed how his song writing has changed since moving with his girlfriend Alexa Chung to Brooklyn, New York.
"I used to worry about spending too long on it, that if the songs didn't just emerge via a magical ray of light they'd be inferior. Now I'm not afraid to craft a bit more," he said
Matt Helders, the band's drummer, explained why Humbug moves away from the largely Sheffield-specific subject matter of the first two albums.
"We didn't want to recap the first two albums. Sheffield isn't very big and you can use up the local colour quite quickly."
He also revealed the affect Turner's move to New York has had on the rest of the band.
"We weren't bothered when he moved. As you grow up, you want different things out of life. Now, because we're no longer always hanging about like in a gang, it's more special when we are together," he said.
The Arctic Monkeys are currently on tour with their third album Humbug, playing a series of dates throughout the UK finishing at Belfast's Odyssey on November 25th.
