Australian DJ takes credit for Lady Gaga discovery
A DJ in Australia has claimed that he is responsible for launching Lady Gaga's career.
Kyle Sandilands, who is also a judge in the Australian version of The X Factor, has said he was the first to play the Alejandro singer's music on air.
Speaking to the Courier-Mail, Sandilands said: "I was the first person to hit play on a CD of a Lady Gaga song anywhere in the world."
He claimed that after he began playing the artist, her popularity spread through Australia and New Zealand before it "bled through" to Asia and Europe.
"I think we were on our third or fourth single before America even re-cut her first song and put a rap in it," he said.
"Her album was out for like six months. No one in America was playing it. Australians were the first people to really break her. I was the first person to play her."
Lady Gaga comes to the UK later this year as part of her current Monster Ball tour, starting at Odyssey in Belfast on October 30th.
