Beatles audition invitation from Sir Paul McCartney to go under the hammer
An invitation to audition as a drummer for The Beatles has been found and put up for auction, which may see many of those with Sir Paul McCartney tickets placing bids, as the letter is in his handwriting.
The note was found in a book bought at a car boot sale in Liverpool and is dated August 12th 1960.
At this point, Pete Best was drumming for the band, but experts are fairly certain the letter was not an invitation for famous percussionist Ringo Starr to join the outfit.
"We would like to offer you an audition for the position of drummer in the group," McCartney had written, although he warned the recipient, whose identity is not known, that he would need to be free to take a two-month trip to Hamburg.
Those looking forward to the Sir Paul McCartney tour coming to England in December may consider bidding on the item, which will be auctioned at Christie's in London on November 15th and is expected to sell for up to £9,000.
