Bruce Springsteen headlining Isle of Wight Festival "phenomenal"

The fact Bruce Springsteen is set to headline the Isle of Wight Festival 2012 is "phenomenal", the promoter of the event has said.

John Giddings revealed he has spent the last seven years trying to book the superstar and is "very pleased" he has finally managed it.

"He heard about the Isle of Wight [Festival] from other bands and thought 'this is the kind of thing I like to do'," the organiser stated.

Mr Giddings explained The Boss is likely to play a two-and-a-half hour set and fans can expect to see "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", which the promoter claimed was "value for money".

The organiser said he wanted to find an act that could match if not beat the high-status bands the festival has hosted in the past, including Coldplay, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones and the Foo Fighters.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band is just the group he was looking for, the promoter indicated, describing the musician as "one of the greatest acts of all time".

Although there are likely to be plenty of Isle of Wight Festival 2012 rumours circulating, Mr Giddings highlighted no other performers have yet been confirmed.

Tickets for the event go on sale today (November 25th) at 09:00 GMT.
