Campaign group calls for Lewis Hamilton to be handed driving ban

Lewis Hamilton has been accused of speeding

A road safety campaign group is calling for Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton to be given a driving ban for speeding.

RoadCross has called for the measure after Hamilton's girlfriend, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, revealed to the Sun newspaper that the McLaren driver often breaks the speed limits near his Swiss home outside Geneva.

A spokesman for the group told the news provider that, as a public figure, Hamilton carried the responsibility of setting an example to others.
"Public figures should be conscious that they are role models and adopt exemplary driving behaviour," he said.
"For this reason we are asking for Mr Hamilton to be sanctioned for his driving habits."
He pointed out that Hamilton has been in trouble for his driving in the past, having crashed at a stop sign last year.

But Hamilton will be hoping he does not lose any of his pace this weekend when he looks to extend his lead at the top of the drivers' championship at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on Sunday (June 27th).
