Coldplay X Factor gig 'was a risk'
A member of the team responsible for ensuring Coldplay tours run to plan has admitted there were worries the band's appearance on X Factor could have gone down badly with some fans.
The four-piece took to the stage as part of the final of the show last weekend and the author of the Roadie 42 blog, published on the band's official website, revealed there were reservations about whether the show would be a success.
"There has been a lot of discussion over whether [the appearance] was a good idea - not least within the Coldplay camp itself," the roadie wrote, adding his first thought on hearing the news was: "Man, you're handing haters some pretty huge bullets there."
He noted that if the gig - which saw the band perform two tracks from new album Mylo Xyloto - had not gone well, it could have been "more of a big deal" than if a Glastonbury show had been poorly received.
The band is set to embark on a nationwide tour next summer, which includes dates in London, Coventry, Manchester and Sunderland.
