Coldplay explain naming of Mylo Xyloto album

Coldplay have explained why they decided to call their fifth album Mylo Xyloto, although their reasons may be a disappointment to those who hoped to find out the meaning of the words.

"It doesn't mean anything," singer Chris Martin told MTV. "We did take a gun and kind of shoot it right at our shoes," he admitted.

Speaking to the news provider at the Austin City Limits festival, the musician said that although Mylo Xyloto does not refer to anything in particular, it had been a name the band were considering for around two years.

"It sort of has a nice appearance to it ... with all those Os," he explained.

People eager to get their hands on Coldplay tickets this week could see the band play tracks from Mylo Xyloto during the group's forthcoming tour.

The album itself will be out on October 24th and comes after the foursome released seven live recording for free through the Sunday Times.
