Depeche Mode to play Albert Hall charity gig

David Gahan recovered from a stomach tumour earlier this year

It has been announced that Depeche Mode will be playing the Royal Albert Hall in London next year in an effort to raise money for charity.

The band are the first to be confirmed to play for the Teenage Cancer Trust annual run of gigs which this year will mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the UK's first teenage cancer unit.

Martin Gore of Depeche Mode said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be a part of Teenage Cancer Trust and very proud to be kicking off the tenth year of gigs. We've never played the Royal Albert Hall before, so we’re really looking forward to that too."

Earlier this year, the band's lead singer Dave Gahan was diagnosed with cancer. After collapsing on stage in Greece it was discovered Gahan had a malignant tumour in his stomach.

However, doctors were able to remove the tumour and give the singer the all-clear.

Depeche Mode will be playing at the Royal Albert Hall on February 17th before performing at the O2 Arena on Saturday 20th.
