Depeche Mode's Martin Gore subpoenaed for video game court case
Thursday, 26 November 2009

Martin Gore of Depeche Mode has been summoned as a witness (subpoenaed) in a civil court action filed in the US against the makers of a video game.
An American man filed a civil complaint against Activision Blizzard, the makers of the World of Warcraft game, at a court in California yesterday (November 24th).
The man believes the game is responsible for a range of physical and mental health problems that he suffers from such as depression and Agoraphobia.
Gore was named as a witness because, according to the plaintiff: "he himself has been known to be sad, lonely, and alienated as can be seen in the songs he writes."
Actress Winona Ryder has also been summoned due to her being a fan of JD Salinger book A Catcher in the Rye, which deals with issues of alienation.
The man's complaint is based on the large distances World of Warcraft players are required to travel in the game at a slow walking place.
This, he says, increases the amount of time it takes to play the game leading to more subscription fees for the game's makers.
Depeche Mode will be touring the UK next month, starting at the SECC in Glasgow on December 12th.
