England beat India to take world number one spot

England have been officially declared the world's leading Test cricket side after beating India at Edgbaston.

Fans with npower Test match tickets saw the home side clinch an emphatic victory on the fourth day of the third game in the series, winning by an innings and 242 runs.

They are now 3-0 up in the series and will be hoping to complete a clean sweep in the final match at the Oval.

International Test cricket rankings now put England in first place ahead of India, with South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia completing the top five.

Andrew Strauss and co effectively sealed their victory at Edgbaston when they put on a massive total of 710 runs in their first and only innings, with Alastair Cook scoring 294 and Eoin Morgan also getting a century.

The devastating bowling trio of James Anderson, Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad restricted India to 224 runs in their first innings, while Graeme Swann chipped in with two wickets as the visitors put on a further 244 in their second innings.

England fans will be hoping that the team give another impressive performance when the fourth and final Test in the series gets underway at the Oval on Thursday (August 18th).
