F1 drivers slam 'dangerous' Melbourne start time

Formula One comes to Australia this weekend, where Jenson Button won last year

A host of Formula One drivers have complained about the start time of this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.

Mark Webber, Jarno Trulli and Robert Kubica have all voiced concerns that the twilight start time could lead to a dangerous lack of visibility due to the bright setting sun mixed with shadows cast across the track.

The start time was moved to 5pm local time last season in an effort to boost viewing figures in Europe and despite driver complaints, race organisers decided not to change it for 2010.

Renault driver Kubica said: "Last year it was extremely dangerous the last 20 laps of the race.

"Going through the last corner was like going through a blind place, it was impossible to see."

Lotus veteran Trulli concurred, saying: "We raised our concerns last year, but apparently nothing has changed."

Qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix begins on Saturday, March 27th, with the race itself getting underway the following day.
