Federer qualifies for Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

Federer has qualified for the Barclays ATP world Tour Finals

Roger Federer has become the second player this year to qualify for the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

The Swiss star booked his ticket to the London event with his first round victory against Brian Dabul in the first round of the US Open.

Reserved for the world's top players, only those who finish the year in the top eight of the men's ATP rankings qualify to take part.

Federer joins current world number one Rafael Nadal as the only two players to qualify so far, by virtue of the fact it is now mathematically impossible for them to drop out of the top eight this year.

The competition takes place in November at the O2 Arena in London and Federer said he was looking forward to playing at the venue.

"I have contested in a variety of different places throughout my professional tennis career and I can surely say that it is one of the fantastic places to play the game of tennis," he said on his website.

"Therefore, I am definitely looking forward to once again return there in the month of November and finish the year strongly."
