Flannery loses Six Nations ban appeal

Jerry Flannery will miss the rest of the Six Nations

Ticket holders to Ireland's remaining Six Nations games will not be seeing Jerry Flannery take to the field after he failed to overturn a suspension.

The hooker lost an appeal against his six-week ban for kicking France's Alexis Palisson during the two nations' clash earlier in the tournament.

Although Flannery had pleaded guilty to the charges, Ireland lodged an appeal to have his ban reduced but an independent Six Nations committee upheld the ban.

"The appeals committee upheld the original disciplinary committee's finding that the act of foul play was in the mid-range of offending defined by IRB regulation 17, and that the level of net mitigation applied was within the correct margin of appreciation," said a statement from the committee.

Flannery had earlier admitted he deserved a red card for the offence during the match in Paris on February 13th which Ireland went on to lose 33-10.

Ireland play Wales in their next fixture of the tournament at Croke Park on Saturday, March 13th.
