Formula One returning to the USA

A Formula One race is to be staged in Austen, Texas

F1 fans will soon once again be able to buy tickets to a grand prix in the USA.

The sport's owners have announced an agreement has been reached to stage a grand prix in Austin, Texas from 2012 through to 2021.

A purposely-designed Formula One track will be built in the city, the first of its kind anywhere in the US.

Tavo Hellmund, managing partner of the race's promoter Full Throttle Productions, said that Austen was ideally suited to hosting the event.

"This is a case of the right timing in the right place. As many Americans know, Austin has earned a reputation as one of the 'it' cities in the United States. Austin features that rare combination of ideal geographic location and beauty."

The last grand prix to be held in the country was at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 2000-07.

Prior to that, US grands prix have taken place in a variety of locations, including Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix.

The next race of this year's Formula One season is the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul, which takes place on May 30th.
