Free Six Nations tickets handed out to celebs by BBC
Tickets to Six Nations games and other major sporting events were given out as freebies by the BBC to a host of famous names, the Sun has revealed.
According to the news provider, 26 Six Nations tickets were handed out by the broadcaster last year, as well as 151 for Wimbledon and 36 for England cricket matches.
In total 275 free tickets were gifted to the rich and famous during 2009, with such stars as Lilly Allen and Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe benefitting.
However, the broadcaster denied any wrongdoing as the tickets were part of its broadcast rights packages and therefore did not cost anything to the corporation or the license fee payer.
A BBC spokesman said: "These tickets did not cost the licence fee payer a single additional penny.
"The BBC did not offer any corporate hospitality at sporting events in 2009 and the recipients of these tickets were not provided with any food, transport or accommodation by the BBC."
Next Saturday (March 13th), sees England take on Scotland at Murrayfield in the fourth round of matches of this year's Six Nations.
