Green Day album is 'one of the most important of the decade'
American Idiot, Green Day's 2004 album, has been named as one of the most important of the decade by a leading music website.
The list was published by npr.org as part of their weekly All Things Considered web broadcast. It features such seminal recordings as Arcade Fire's Funeral and Radiohead's Kid A.
List reviewer, Robin Hilton, described the album as: "A provocative examination of an America bloated by greed, junk food and prescription medications."
According to its publishers, the purpose of the list was to find the albums that have had the greatest influence the music industry.
"These are the game-changers: records that signalled some sort of shift in the way music is made or sounds, or ones that were especially influential or historically significant," said the website.
The list was presented alphabetically rather than in rank order so it is not clear which album was considered the most important but Mr Hilton said: "American Idiot remains one of the decade's fiercest and most ambitious rock records."
Green Day will be coming to the UK next summer and will play at Wembley Stadium on June 19th.
