Green Day have started working on new album

Green Day are working on a follow-up to 21st Century Breakdown

A new album from American punk band Green Day is in the works, it has been revealed.

In an interview with Kerrang!, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said the group had used some of the downtime during their recent European tour to record new material.

He told the magazine: "We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam. We wanted get [the songs] down in some early form."

It would be the band's ninth studio album following last year's 21st Century Breakdown, which went gold in the US and platinum in the UK.

However, perhaps fans should not get too excited just yet, as the band began working on that album back in 2006 before releasing it three years later.

Green Day come to the UK for a series of gigs this summer including one at Wembley Stadium on June 19th and then the SECC in Glasgow two days later.
