Green Day singer to induct punk band into hall of fame
Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of world famous rock band Green Day, is to help induct The Stooges into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Stooges, widely regarded as one of the most influential punk bands of all time, will take their place among the great and the good of alternative music on March 15th 2010.
Billie Joe will join the rest of the band in the summer for their Eurpean tour, which those fans lucky enough to have tickets to see them at Wembley Stadium on June 19th in London will be eagerly anticipating.
It is not the first time that The Stooges have been involved in the induction ceremony, as they covered two Madonna tracks at her inauguration in March 2008.
However, it has been a long wait for Iggy Pop, the lead singer, and the rest of the band, who have been nominated and turned down for the honour seven times before this.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Iggy expressed his happiness at the award: "I had about two hours of a strong emotional reaction, the same I started getting when our group reformed. It felt like vindication."
Phish's Trey Anastasio, Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band and Wyclef Jean will also help with the 2010 inductions to the hall of fame, with nominees including reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, Genesis and Abba.
