Green Day play Wembley Stadium on June 19th

A musical based on Green Day's American Idiot album is set to hit the big time with a run on New York's Broadway.

After months of speculation, it has been officially confirmed that the show will make its Broadway debut on April 20th at the St James Theatre.

The stage version of American Idiot tells the story of three young friends as their lives take very different paths. It features all the songs from Green Day's 2004 Grammy-winning album.

It enjoyed a record-breaking run at the Berkley Repertory Theatre in California last year and Green Day recently recorded a version of their single 21 Guns with the cast of the show.

The band's guitarist, Billie Joe Armstrong, said: "Experiencing American Idiot on stage in Berkeley was incredible. The energy and chemistry of the group is contagious. We're so proud that the show is coming to Broadway."

Green Day are coming to the UK in the summer where they will play two shows; at Lancashire County Cricket Club on June 16th and Wembley Stadium on the 19th.
