I'll unify titles as tribute to Sir Henry, says David Haye
David Haye has said unifying heavyweight boxing's three major titles would be a perfect tribute to the late Sir Henry Cooper.
Sir Henry, who passed away on May 1st aged 76, was one of British boxing's most gifted fighters, but was never able to win the world champion.
Now, Haye, who, like Cooper, hails from south London, wants to beat Wladimir Klitschko to bring back the IBF and WBO titles, to add to his WBA belt, to honour the memory of the boxing great.
"There could be no higher acclaim than to bring back the belts in Sir Henry's name. Unifying the division and bringing it back to south London. I'm sure Henry would be there in spirit," he said.
"Sir Henry never won the world title, so taking it back to South London would mean everything to me. It would be my own lifelong ambition fulfilled."
David Haye takes on Wladimir Klitschko at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany on July 2nd.
