Jenson Button has been awarded an MBE

Jenson Button has received a boost ahead of the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix after being awarded an MBE.

The reigning Formula One world champion visited Buckingham Palace to collect the award from the Queen.

Button, who won the 2009 title with Brawn before moving to McLaren this season, said it was "the greatest honour I could possibly imagine".

"To be awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen is a very great honour for me, and a significant milestone in my life<" he said.">

"Today makes me incredibly proud to be British and to be able represent my country on the world stage."

The 30-year-old, who recently split up with long-term girlfriend Jessica Michibata, is currently embroiled in a tight race for the 2010 championship.

A victory last time out in the Turkish Grand Prix took him to within five points of the championship leader, Red Bull's Mark Webber.

He'll be hoping to overhaul the Australian at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, which takes place on June 13th.
