John Hayes approaches a century and targets more
Rugby fans with tickets to the RBS Six Nations game between Ireland and England at Twickenham on February 27th will be able to see Irish prop John Hayes make his 100th test appearance.
But far from dwelling on the milestone, Hayes is already targeting a place in the squad Ireland will take to New Zealand for the world cup next year.
The Irishman spent two years playing in New Zealand and the effect on his career can not be overstated.
Before playing in Invercargill, Hayes was a lock, but was persuaded to move further forward in the pack.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, he remembered his time in New Zealand with affectionate understatement [heh nice].
"It's a great country and it definitely helped me along the way," he said. "I got to finish up in the front row.
"I was a bit slow to start with. I'd never considered it
It's worked out okay since."
Though questions have been asked of his scrimmaging, Hayes will make his 51st consecutive test appearance at Twickenham and has not missed a Six Nations game since making his debut in 2000.
The Munster prop will be nearly 38 when the world cup kicks off next year but he does not intend to let that stop him.
