Kay's charity single raises £170,000
Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band has raised £170,000 for Children in Need, the Press Association has reported.
The single features a medley of songs "performed" by some of children's TV's best loved characters such as Bob the Builder and Postman Pat.
After spending two weeks at the top of the charts the song has amassed more than 265,000 sales, as of Monday December 7th, including CDs, DVDs and downloads of the track.
In a big week for Peter Kay, the comedian was introduced to the Queen when he presented the Royal Variety Performance in Blackpool.
During the show, which will be broadcast next week, Kay is reported to have said that his nan was sitting near the monarch and they would be "swapping fudge by the interval".
"She might be in her 80s but she still pulls her wheelie bin out every Tuesday night. I just wish my nanna would," he joked.
Peter Kay will play a 20-night residency at Manchester's MEN Arena, starting on April 27th 2010, before touring the rest of the country.
