'Kiss is not a charity' Gene Simmons tells illegal downloaders

Kiss tour the UK this year

Gene Simmons, lead singer of Kiss, has vented his anger at people who download the band's songs illegally for free.

In an interview with rushonrock.com, Simmons revealed the reasons for signing an exclusive distribution deal with US retail giant Wal-Mart for their new album Sonic Boom.

He said that doing so allowed the band to concentrate on the music without "worries".

When asked what worries he was referring to, Simmons told the news provider: "I will be damned if I'm going to allow somebody from Newcastle College to download the new record for free after we've spent six months of our lives working on it.

"Kiss is not a charity and we don't pretend to be."

He also said that the search for a business partner to sell the album was one of the reasons for the long gap between Sonic Boom and its 1998 predecessor Psycho Circus.

The band will shortly be embarking on their Sonic Boom Over Europe tour to promote the new album, which will include several dates in the UK, starting at the Sheffield Arena on May 1st.
