Leeds and Reading festival goers warned of ticket fraud

Festival ticket scam warning issued

Those looking to buy Leeds and Reading festival tickets have been warned to steer clear of fraudulent websites.

Figures released by the Office of Fair Trading as part of its Just Tick It campaign reveal that more than 5,000 fans were scammed when trying to buy tickets for music festivals last summer.

Provided by organisers of some of the UK's top festivals, including Reading and Leeds, the figures are based on complaints made by people who paid for tickets online but did not received them.

Alternatively, some were duped into buying fake tickets and were subsequently turned away at the gates.

The Just Tick It campaign provides a checklist that music fans should go through when assessing the validity of a ticket-selling site.

Many musicians are backing the scheme, including Welsh rockers the lostprophets said

"This summer we are playing at both Reading and Leeds Festivals so want to make sure that no one is scammed in this way when trying to come and see us perform," the band said.

The Reading and Leeds festivals get underway on August 27th.
