Lotus reach 500 race landmark

Lotus to make 500th Ggrand prix appearance this weekend

The Lotus F1 team will reach a landmark 500 races when they take part in the European Grand Prix in Valencia this weekend (June 27th).

After a 15-year absence from the sport, the famous British manufacturer made a return to Formula One this year to add to its illustrious history.

Only three of the 162 teams to ever compete in the sport can boast more world championships, wins, points or pole positions than Lotus - Ferrari, McLaren and Williams.

Speaking to the Mirror, Lotus's current driver Jarno Trulli said that the challenge for the team now was to recreate the successes of the past.

"Reaching such a landmark is part of the Lotus heritage and you have to respect it," he told the news provider.

"Obviously Lotus made history in the past and eventually we would like to make history in the future.

"It's good to achieve the 500th Grand Prix but we have a big responsibility and task ahead of us which we need to meet."

So far Trulli and Lotus teammate Heikki Kovalainen are yet to score any points in 2010.
