Love never dies 'takes romance as far as it will go'
Andrew Lloyd Webber has said Love Never Dies is the most romantic musical he has ever composed.
In an interview with the Telegraph, he revealed some of the themes behind the upcoming sequel to The Phantom of the Opera.
"This one has taken romance as far as it will go," he said.
"The story of the Phantom is one of rock masquerading as opera. The passions in Love Never Dies are rock passions."
Love Never Dies picks up the story ten years after the original, to find the Phantom has left Paris for New York's Coney Island.
According to the newspaper, The Phantom of the Opera has taken almost £2 billion since it first opened in 1986, making it the most successful entertainment production of all time.
Lloyd Webber put the musical's appeal down to everyone being able to identify with its main character.
"Everyone has something about themselves they would like to change," he said.
Love Never Dies opens at the Adelphi Theatre on February 22nd.
