Malaysian weather 'greatest challenge' for Grand Prix

The Malaysian Grand Prix was abandoned last year because of rain

Ticket holders to this weekend's Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix may want to take an umbrella following forecasts of heavy rain.

Formula One teams now fear a repeat of last year's race which had to be abandoned after 31 laps when a torrential downpour struck the Sepang circuit.

Norbert Haug, vice president of the Mercedes GP team, said: "As usual for this race, we have to expect extremely hot and humid conditions, usually accompanied by torrential rain showers.

"This climate is the greatest challenge for the teams, cars and drivers."

Meanwhile, Mercedes driver and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has said he is looking forward to the race, despite struggling in the grand prix in Australia.

"It was a lot of fun fighting it out on the track in Melbourne, even if it was just for one point, and I will enjoy fighting again in Sepang," he said.

Qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur gets underway on Saturday, April 4th with the race the following day.
