Mani 'wanted to reunite Stone Roses for years'
Those with The Stone Roses tickets who are wondering how the band reunited after splitting acrimoniously in the 90s may be interested in Paul Weller's comments on the comeback.
Speaking to Shortlist magazine, the veteran mod rocker said he knew the Manchester group's bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield well and he has been eager for a long time to get the outfit back on the road.
"I know from [Mani's] point of view that he's been mad to do it for years. He's actually really wanted to get back with his mates and he loved that band," the former Jam frontman said.
The bassist said at a press conference about the reunion on October 18th that the boys were not getting back together for the money, although Weller seems to disagree.
He admitted he did not know the group well but that he imagined cash would be factor in the comeback, particularly for John Squire and Ian Brown, who have not always got along.
If the band do need the money they may be pleased with the earnings they make from their concerts next year, as the sale of The Stone Roses reunion tour tickets was widely reported to generate as much as £8.25 million.
