McIntyre will play the O2 Arena next month

Funny-man Michael McIntyre has spoken out about his huge success.

Speaking to JournalLive.co.uk ahead of a gig in Newcastle, McIntyre admitted that he was not being complacent about his new-found popularity.

"I know you have to keep working at it," he told the publication.

Speaking about London's O2, where he will be returning for gigs on November 2nd, 3rd and 17th, McIntyre said people enjoy the venue because "you can have a real night out there".

"It's full of bars and restaurants - although I'm not saying, 'Enjoy the food because the show won't be up to much'," he joked.

"A responsive crowd is great," McIntyre admitted: "They help you see new things in your comedy."

He added that he feels "extremely lucky" to be working in a job that he loves.

As well as commercial success - his DVD was the fastest selling debut stand up release in UK history - McIntyre has also had critical acclaim, winning Best Headliner at the Chortle Awards 2008.
