McLaren suspension system ruled illegal
A new suspension system McLaren were hoping would give them an advantage at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix has been ruled illegal by the FIA.
The British team have suspended working on the upgrade as the sport's governing body have said it breaches a rule which stipulates nothing can change the ride height of a car between qualifying and the race.
"We've had to change some of the things we're doing," said McLaren engineering director Paddy Lowe.
"Basically, we had a system we were working on, and weve now suspended that."
McLaren began working on the new suspension when they noticed some cars, in particular Red Bull, ran closer to the ground when light on fuel.
"In terms of taking a fresh look at the suspension we got the feeling we were rather late to the game - relative perhaps to some others," Lowe said.
Qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai gets underway on April 17th, with the race the following day.
