Mercedes boss puts faith in Schumacher

Michael Schumacher is ninth in the drivers' championship

Norbert Haug, president of Mercedes motorsport, has backed driver Michael Schumacher ahead of his home grand prix this weekend.

Schumacher has faced criticism this season after failing to live up to expectations following his return to Formula One.

He will now be hoping to impress ticket holders to this weekends German Grand Prix and his confidence will be boosted after receiving praise from Haug.

Speaking to Kicker magazine, he said that Schumacher would be back in the hunt for the world championship next season.

"Michael will concentrate for the rest of the year on achieving the absolute best results. Next year he will go for the title," he told the news provider.

"He is still totally cool and relaxed, he wants success - and that impressed us all."

He added: "I would not have any other line-up than Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg."

Schumacher, who has won the world championship seven times, is currently ninth in the standings on 36 points. Lewis Hamilton leads on 145.

The German Grand Prix at Hockenheim takes place on Sunday, July 25th.
