Mercedes boss stands by Schumacher

Schumacher will be looking for a better performance at the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix

Formula One driver Michael Schumacher has been backed by Mercedes GP boss Nick Fry after a disappointing start to the season.

The seven-time world champion has won just nine points in the first three races of 2010 after coming out of retirement to race for the German team and was forced to retire last time out at the Malaysian Grand Prix

But Fry has insisted Schumacher is still a great driver, despite having been outperformed by his less experienced teammate Nico Rosberg in each of this season's Grands Prix so far.

"Every race he is learning a little bit more and it is all coming together slowly but surely, which is probably what you would expect," said Fry.

"He has taken the disappointment of what happened in Malaysia on Sunday very well, and he is old enough to realise that sometimes these things happen.

"He has taken away the positives again. I would not underestimate him."

Schumacher will have a chance to prove his boss right at the Shanghai Grand Prix in China, which gets underway on April 18th.
