Michael McIntyre admits it was 'hard to keep going' on road to fame
Michael McIntyre has revealed the hard times he experienced as a struggling comedian before hitting the big time.
In an interview with The Times, the 33-year-old star said how difficult he had found it to be working so hard without getting any recognition.
"I was really making no impact for a long time. It was really confusing and hard, really hard, just to keep going," McIntyre said.
Even once he had won over the audiences, McIntyre was still frustrated with the lack of critical acclaim he was getting.
"I knew for a while, because people used to come to my show and love it, and it surprised me that critics were coming and not seeing that," he said.
Despite the success of his TV work and sell-out live gigs, McIntyre revealed that he still gets nervous about impressing audiences at his live shows.
"These people have waited six months, they've bought my tickets, they're my biggest fans. But an audience, after the initial big welcome, has to be won all over again," he said.
McIntyre will be performing at the Bournemouth International Centre tonight (November 16th) before moving on to London's 02 Arena on November 17th.
