Mike Patton: Metallica/Lou Reed partnership a great idea
People waiting to get their hands on Metallica Download Festival tickets may be among those unsure what to think of the band's latest album with Lou Reed, Lulu, but fellow musician Mike Patton thinks it was a good idea.
The singer, who has performed with major groups including Faith No More and The Dillinger Escape Plan, spoke to online publication Quietus about the partnership.
"I'm not going to start talking out of my breeches here. But the 'idea' of a record like that I think is amazing. I think it's great," he said.
He admitted he had not yet listened to the record, but he was interested in the concept of the album - which is based on two plays by Frank Wedekind.
Patton said he felt it is worth bands taking experimental risks even if they could suffer a backlash for doing so.
It is unlikely any negative reactions to the album from fans will stop a rush for Metallica 2012 tickets, as the group appeared to have retained many followers.
Indeed, the vote appeared to be split when Download Festival organisers asked potential attendees whether they would prefer to see the outfit or Black Sabbath.
