Morrissey tour: Singer criticises queen ahead of Ireland visit
With Morrissey tickets recently going on sale to his latest tour, the controversial singer has once again hit headlines with his outspoken views.
The former Smiths frontman, whose parents moved from Dublin to Manchester shortly before his birth, has criticised the royal family and the queen's visit to Ireland, the first by a British monarch in 100 years.
"The message from the queen will be the same as ever: who we are born to is more important than what we achieve in life," he told music magazine Hot Press.
"The full meaning of the monarchy is, like the queen herself, a complete mystery to most people."
He also called upon Queen Elizabeth II to reunite Northern Ireland with the Republic.
"The queen also has the power to give back the six counties to the Irish people, allowing Ireland to be a nation once again," Morrissey commented.
Morrissey begins a UK tour at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall on June 15th.
