Noel Gallagher explains name of new band
Noel Gallagher has explained the origins of the name High Flying Birds, revealing that it is the title of a song by 1960s rock band Jefferson Airplane.
Speaking to Xfm, the singer-songwriter said that inspiration for the title of his new musical project originally came from Peter Greenwood's Fleetwood Mac.
He said he liked the idea of being "Noel Gallagher's … something".
"And then maybe a month passed and I was looking through something and there's a song by Jefferson Airplane called High Flying Birds. And that name jumped out," added the former Oasis guitarist.
"I had a bit of a eureka moment, so I wrote it down. I thought, 'that looks really cool'. I doesn't mean anything, you know?"
Noel Gallagher tickets will be available to order from 09:00 tomorrow (August 5th), ahead of his new band's gigs at Dublin's Olympia Theatre on October 23rd, Edinburgh's Usher Hall on October 27th and the Hammersmith Apollo in London on October 29th.
