Radiohead protest against digital piracy laws

People keeping an eye out for new Radiohead tickets may be interested to hear the band has revealed its opposition to proposed laws in the US.

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) were put forward in the US recently, but received widespread criticism from those who feared the legislation could lead to internet censorship.

Although the laws should be in the interest of entertainers, whose work can be pirated on the web, some musicians have stepped forward to say they are against the proposals.

Radiohead added a Stop PIPA link to the top of their website, while the Flaming Lips and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor also stated their opposition.

Elsewhere, Circa Survive blocked access to their website for a day to show their disagreement with the bill, which is currently being discussed in the US senate.

They posted a message on social networking platform Twitter saying: "Today we have blacked out our site in protest of SOPA/PIPA. We value freedom of speech far above $."

Many people may be waiting for new dates to be announced for the forthcoming Radiohead tour, as the band has so far only confirmed gigs in the US, Mexico, Europe, Taiwan and Japan, but none in their UK homeland.
