Reading and Leeds Festival goers urged to donate tents to Pakistan
Those with tickets to this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals should consider donating their tents to flood-hit Pakistan, it has been suggested.
Police have said that many tents are thrown away at the end of the three-day festivals with some even being set on fire last year.
But a much better use may be to donate unwanted tents to Pakistan, where many have been left homeless by catastrophic flooding.
Det Insp Simon Bedwell told the BBC: "Many festival-goers buy tents specifically for the festival and throw them away or destroy them afterwards. Last year we had a particular problem with a minority burning their tents.
"This seems a sad waste, particularly at a time when people living in places like Pakistan are struggling for basic shelter."
Volunteers will be on hand during the festival to advise people on how they can donate their tents to the country.
The Reading and Leeds Festivals take place between August 27th and 29th.
