Red Bull boss denies favouritism

Reports have suggested a rift between Red Bull drivers Vettel and Webber

The owner of the Red Bull Formula One team has denied that either of its drivers is favoured over the other.

Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder of the energy drinks company, has claimed that neither Sebastian Vettel nor Mark Webber has number one driver status.

"You cannot just programme a Champion. Our two drivers know that a) they have to beat each other, and b) they still need each other to take away as many points as possible from the competition," he said.

"We do not have a No 1 and a No 2 driver. Both drivers have cars to exactly the same standard."

His comments follow speculation of mounting tension between Webber and Vettel after the former accused his team of putting the interests of Vettel first.

German driver Vettel will be hoping to close the gap on Webber, who is seven pints ahead of him in the drivers' championship, at his home-coming German Grand Prix on Sunday, July 25th.
