Robbie Williams: Michael Buble is the real deal
Singer Robbie Williams has claimed he is relieved Michael Buble was not around in the early 2000s when the Take That star released his swing album as the Canadian now rules the genre.
Williams released Swing When You're Winning in 2001, which featured covers of a number of swing classics.
However, speaking to radio station Magic 105.4, he admitted Buble would have done a better job, describing him as the "real deal".
"Harry Connick Jr, Michael Buble - they're kind of the only guys who have been doing it in the last 15 years and doing it very, very well," he said.
"Fortunately Harry Connick Jr was on a break and Michael Buble wasn't around so there was a void and I filled that before Michael Buble showed how to do it properly."
Williams said that he had been raised on swing music thanks to his dad, whose record collection featured the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
Michael Buble begins the UK leg of his world tour later this month, starting at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on September 27th.
