Ross Ford announced as Scottish Six Nations captain

Ross Ford has been named as captain for the England Scotland rugby match on the opening day of the Six Nations championship next week.

The Scottish player was handed the title by coach Andy Robinson when Kelly Brown, who had originally been asked to lead the team, was put out of action by a knee injury.

"It's a massive honour and privilege to captain your country. I'm really grateful to be given this chance to captain a team of so much potential," Ford was quoted as saying on the RBS Six Nations official website.

Robinson added: "I firmly believe he is the man who will step up and lead from the front."

The side will play England for the Calcutta Cup on February 4th at Murrayfield, a day before the first Ireland Wales rugby match of the tournament at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

Brown was supposed to be taking the captaincy on his 50th cap but he is expected to stay off the field for a while after being hurt during a game at the weekend.
