Schumacher: I'm still in the title race

Michael Schumacher says he can still be world champion

Michael Schumacher has promised ticket holders to this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix that he is still in the race for the Formula One world title.

If the German driver were to achieve this, it would be an historic eighth world championship and mark a dramatic return to the sport he retired from three years ago.

But things have not been looking too promising for Schumacher, having taken just nine points from the first three races of the season, 30 fewer than current leader Felipe Massa.

However, this does not appear to have dented his confidence and the Mercedes driver believes he can still turn things around.

"If we have a quick enough development speed there is no reason why we cannot fight for the championship," said Schumacher.

"Because the results have not been as great as some people have expected - and even myself I would love to have had better results - it is natural to not have some positive feedback in the media."

The 2010 Formula One Chinese Grand Prix gets underway this Sunday, April 18th.
